Art Deco Mirrors
The style of Art Deco was from the 1920's and 1930's, and because it had a sense of modernity, it can fit in very well with today's contemporary styling. It is old enough that many of the characteristics of Art Deco has come full circle and are popular again today, but it is also considered somewhat of an antique, which is also popular among collectors.
There is no better way to create space in a room than to use a mirror. Not only does it trick the eye into thinking there is more space beyond the wall, but it reflects the light in a way to create airiness. Mirrors were used to decorate many different pieces of Art Deco furniture such as dressing tables, writing desks and cabinets, but during the years they were created, mirrors were being used more and more on the walls as decorative pieces.
There are many different types of Art Deco mirrors, with different sizes, shapes and frames. Because curves were a typical characteristic of the Art Deco stylistic period, circular wall mirrors were very common. One can find them in either full circles, ovals, or half circles. Some mirrors would have a lovely bevelled edge, sometimes having etching or scallops in a horizontal rectangular shape. For those Art Deco mirrors that were contained within a frame, the frame was often made of a more exotic wood such as mahogany, or perhaps a brass or iron frame.
