Art Deco Bookcases
During the late 1920's and 1930's, the Art Deco influence of style was very popular and was seen in various aspects of design within one's home. This is particularly true of furniture for the home, and Art Deco bookcases were very popular and still are today.
Art Deco bookcases are both functional and attractive, and can add a touch of classic antique to even the most modern design. Even though many bookcases were made in a typical rectangular linear fashion, some were more creative, such as a step design, or contemporary shapes, such as circles, and curves. The Art Deco style is very much known for the use of quality and often exotic woods in the furniture, and bookcases were no exception. Besides oak and walnut, bookshelves can be found in mahogany or rosewood and are usually finished with a high gloss varnish. Typically, the Art Deco bookcase has doors which are inlaid with glass. Instead of plain panes of glass, these inlays would sometimes be decorated glass etchings or iron work designs. Art Deco bookcases can be tall or small, have shelves paired with drawers and, as a result, can be used in many different situations and can be suited to any room.
Whether one has a contemporary or more traditional taste in decor, Art Deco furniture, including Art Deco bookcases, can be appropriate in many different settings. Whether flamboyant or simple, Art Deco furniture is as popular today as it was when it was first made.
