Art Deco Armoires
Most homes built in the heyday of the Art Deco period were built with few storage areas. One main area of storage that seemed to be absent was closets. Instead of having built-in cupboards, most bedrooms had armoires or wardrobes instead. Most Art Deco armoires are made of solid wood, as it was elegant and protected clothing well. More opulent woods were typically used such as walnut and mahogany. In keeping with the style, these armoires were not often left unfinished but were instead varnished to create a high gloss finish. The shape of the Art Deco armoire (also called Art Deco wardrobes) was typically very linear with square lines, and if the armoire had curves, they were often very plain and gradual.
Even though most Art Deco armoires created a bold statement with their wood patterns highlighted by the glossy finish, one can find armoires with ornately carved leaf swags, or flowers. One can also find Art Deco armoires that are inlaid with glass or mirrors, which is both practical and beautiful. Iron workings were also a popular furniture decoration and is often seen on the hinges and handles of Art Deco armoires.
Today, Art Deco period furniture is very popular and can be adapted to any room in any home. The diversity found in Art Deco furniture can be used with a more modern style or country style and just the right accessories make them look like they belong anywhere. The Art Deco armoires, as well as being a beautiful piece of furniture, are highly practical in a modern home. Whether one's taste is opulent or plain, Art Deco furniture is loved by all.
